Process Operations

Do your operations personnel have the knowledge to navigate your processes and drive your operations success?Operations personnel need to know how to minimize accidents and downtime by promoting safety and efficiency. Whether getting new employees up to speed quickly or providing a tune up for experienced personnel, ASC’s Process Operations series is the key.Our Process Operations series includes 16 courses intended for process plant operators, but are useful for maintenance and other plant personnel. The courses in this series range from general knowledge courses including process chemistry and reading P&IDs to courses about specific equipment such as distillation towers, heat exchangers, and reactors.  Each course has objectives, multiple lessons, and feedback screens that allow the learner to revisit content. Automatic bookmarking makes it easy to take a course in segments. All courses are enhanced with professional graphics, animations, and narration, as well as test questions to ensure learning. Courses are delivered via a state of- the-art learning management system that allows you to customize curricula, adjust testing parameters, and even customize courses with site-specific content and photos. These courses cannot be administered and paid for online by the user, they must be assigned by ASC.  Please click Register buttons to send us a request for these courses and we will contact you shortly to complete transaction and get you started!!!

Courses for Process Operations

612 Distillation Basics

registerPresents the basic terminology and methodology of batch and continuous distillation processes. The course builds on the fundamental concepts of vapor pressure, boiling point, and condensation point as the key factors in distillation. The course also illustrates typical tray column components and configuration.

613 Operating Distillation Towers

registerAddresses changing variables and the effect on other variables, common distillation process problems, and normal operations.

617 Reading P&IDs and PFDs

registerExplains how to read P&IDs and PFDs, identify the differences between the two, and identify the basic symbols used. Some of the basic symbols include valves, equipment, exchangers, piping, and more.

618 Centrifugal Pump Basics

Examines the purpose and functions of the single-stage, end-suction centrifugal pump; leak prevention methods; types and uses of packing and seals; key pump components and auxiliary functions; proper pump performance; and methods of control.

619 Centrifugal Pumps: Installation, Troubleshooting, and Safety

registerExplains the steps for successful installation of a centrifugal pump; discusses historical and analytical troubleshooting, including application of a troubleshooting tree; and the major safety precautions associated with centrifugal pumps.

620 Heat Exchangers

registerDiscusses the principles and methods of heat transfer, the common types of heat exchangers — including shell and tube types and plate types — and the advantages and disadvantages of each type of heat exchanger. The course also covers general inspection and maintenance, troubleshooting common problems, and hazard awareness and safety.

621 Valves

registerExplains the main purpose of valves, the overall design features, simple adjustments and lubrication, and types of valves and their applications.  Also discussed, are valve actuators, energy sources, and types of actuators and their applications.

622 Cooling Towers: An Introduction

registerExamines the basic types, function, products, and components of cooling towers, how a cooling tower works, and how to remove the solids caused by inhibitors.

623 Cooling Towers: Operation and Troubleshooting

registerExplores variables that affect control mechanisms, the steps for cooling tower operation, and use of protective equipment.

624 Reciprocating Compressors

registerDiscusses the major components, prime movers, cooling system, lubrication systems, process control, startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting involved with reciprocating compressors.

625 Process Chemistry: Elements & Subatomic Particles

registerExplores the basic role of process chemistry in a plant employee’s job, the differences between organic and inorganic chemistry, atoms and subatomic particles, and the stability of elements and their ability to bond with other elements.

626 Process Chemistry: Chemical Combinations and Properties

registerAddresses different ways elements combine to form molecules, how molecules are expressed in formulas, calculating molecular weights using the periodic table, various bond and reactions, balancing chemical equations, and a comparison of mixtures and compounds.

627 Process Chemistry: Organic Compounds

registerAddresses hydrocarbons as classifications for different substances and the uses of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and amines.

629 Cargo Trucks

registerDiscusses unloading hazardous material onto cargo trucks and cargo tank trucks. The course covers basic hazardous material markings, labels, and placards. This course also discusses the various packaging types, shipping papers, safe loading and unloading techniques, and security.

631 Tank Cars

registerExplains the general requirements and steps for loading and unloading tank cars, performing inspections, keeping documentation, handling hazardous materials, placarding, and marking.

633 Reactors

registerCovers the basic process operation of chemical reactors in an industrial setting. The course also covers the fundamentals of chemical reactions, the various types of chemical reactors, their components, and general reactor operator users_idelines.
