Description

Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus (EEBA/EEBD) are compact, portable devices designed to provide 10-15 minutes of breathable air for escaping Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) environments, such as smoke-filled or toxic areas. They consist of a compressed air cylinder, regulator, and a hood that fits over the head. These devices require monthly inspections to ensure the hoods are clean, cylinders are full and that the overall general condition of the unit is in functional shape.

Key Features & Components

  • Purpose: Exclusively for emergency escape, not for firefighting or rescue operations.
  • Duration: Typically 10 to 15 minutes of air.
  • Components: Small compressed air cylinder, hood, regulator, and a neck seal.

  • Compatibility: Can be worn with glasses and beards/mustaches.

Operational Overview

  • Activation: The valve is opened on the top or side of the unit and then the hood is placed over the head.
  • Usage: Used in industries with high-risk environments, such as H2S
  • Maintenance: Cylinders require periodic inspection and recharging using a compressor, with pressure checked via a gauge.
