An Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is a required written document in conformance with (29 CFR 1910.38) that facilitates, organizes, and ensures employer/employee safety during workplace emergencies. It outlines procedures for evacuations, emergency reporting, shelter-in-place, and medical duties to minimize injuries and property damage. EAP’s are an OSHA requirement in workplaces with over 10 employees. The plan must be written to cover possible hazards like fires, explosions, natural disasters, violent acts and the employees required response.

Accessibility:
· The written plan must be accessible to employees for review.
Reassessment:
· Plans must be updated to, account for, new hazards or, building changes.
According to OSHA, EAPs are mandatory when other standards require them (e.g., in cases of fire, chemical spills, or hazardous waste operations). Smaller organizations with 10 or fewer employees can communicate the plan orally.
