Site-Specific Orientation


The H2S Site-Specific Orientation is in addition to the annual H2S Certification Training.


Accurate Safety Compliance develops an H2S Site-Specific Orientation for Operators to provide to individuals who have the potential to be exposed to H2S in concentrations greater than the occupational exposure limit.


At a minimum, personnel shall be briefed on the Orientation Overview.


Orientation Overview:


  • A sign-in process
  • The person in charge (POC)
  • Endure each worker is trained and the H2S Certification Card is current (within 12 months of issue) and confirms with ANSI/ASSE Z390.1
  • Ensure each worker using a detector and/or monitor is trained in the proper use, calibration and bump testing of that instrument
  • Ensure each worker has a personnel detector and is wearing it in the breathing zone
  • Ensure proper Respiratory Protection Training has been conducted on the respirators to be used, if applicable, and that each worker can don and doff properly.
  • Where the air packs are located.
  • Emergency contact information and where it is located.
  • Percentage of H2S that can be expected.
  • The site-specific contingency plan or emergency action plan
  • Route(s) of egress
  • Wind direction, use and location of wind indicators
  • Emergency assembly area(s) or muster points
  • Applicable warning signals/alarms
  • How to respond in the event of an emergency
  • What personal protective equipment is required
  • First-aid equipment location(s)
  • Eye was station location(s) 
  • Fire extinguishers locations
  • Who is the medic and where they can ge found
  • Where are washrooms/restrooms located
  • Where is the smoking area(s)
  • Cell phone usage rules
  • Vehicle parking
  • Housekeeping (location of garbage dumpsters etc.)
  • Restricted areas
  • Required documentation (JSAs, work permits, near miss reporting, etc.)


Target Audience:


This orientation is applicable to essential workers in all industries.


H2S Site-Specific Orientation is ideal for roughnecks, roustabouts, truck drivers, directional drillers, inspectors, tool pushers, company men, supervisors, and employees who have the potential to be exposed to H2S in an environment with concentrations greater than the Occupational Exposure Limit.


Duration:


The orientation lasts 1 hour or less and includes instruction and a quiz to test the workers competency.


Certification:


H2S Site-Specific Training is not a certification and does not require a Training Certificate to be provided to the student in addition to the H2S Certification. 


Upon successful completion of the orientation, Students will receive an updated H2S Site-Specific Training Record, that contains each employee's name, the signature of the Trainer, and the dates of Training.


The Training Record validates the employees and their authorized representatives with the students' Training Passport.


Training Passport is a digital Training history of a person's Training Records.


This orientation meets the requirements of the ANSI/ASSE Z390.1-2024 Accepted Practices for Hydrogen Sulfide Training.


Frequency:


H2S Site-Specific Orientation should be conducted whenever a new essential workers arrive on location who have the potential to be exposed to H2S in excess of the recommended occupational exposure limit

H2S Site-Specific Orientation Training: Ensuring Essential Workers are Prepared and Confident to Enter a Worksite Associated with Hydrogen Sulfide Operations


Enroll in this orientation to prepare your employees to work in specific environments where hydrogen sulfide is present or in excess of the recommended occupational exposure limit.
