Fire Protection – Incipient Fire Training


Course Overview


This course provides employees with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to recognize fire hazards, understand fire behavior, and safely respond to incipient-stage fires using portable fire extinguishers. Training aligns with OSHA requirements and emphasizes prevention, early response, and safe decision-making.


Course Objectives


Upon completion of this training, students will be able to:


  • Identify common workplace fire hazards
  • Understand the fire triangle and fire behavior principles
  • Recognize different classes of fire
  • Select the appropriate fire extinguisher for each fire type
  • Demonstrate proper use of a fire extinguisher (PASS method)
  • Understand when to fight a fire and when to evacuate
  • Follow emergency procedures and reporting protocols


Target Audience


  • Employees expected to use fire extinguishers
  • Safety personnel and supervisors
  • Maintenance and operations personnel
  • Any employee working in environments with fire hazards


Duration


  • 2 – 4 Hours (depending on practical exercise requirements and class size)


Certification


Upon successful completion of the course, Students will receive a Fire Protection – Incipient Fire Training Certification, that contains each employee’s name, the signature of the Trainer, and the dates of Training, valid for one year.


The certificate of completion is available for review by employees and their authorized representatives within the student’s Training Passport.


Training Passport is a digital training history of a person’s training records.


This course meets the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.157 – Portable Fire Extinguishers, and aligns with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.155 for incipient stage fire response definitions.


Prerequisites


There are no formal prerequisites for this course.


Students must be physically capable of participating in hands-on fire extinguisher training and practical exercises.


A basic understanding of workplace safety practices is recommended.

Employer evaluation is required to determine whether an employee is expected to respond to incipient-stage fires as part of their job duties.

Practical Exercise


Students will participate in hands-on fire extinguisher training, including:


  • Live fire scenarios
  • Simulated fire extinguisher use
  • Proper stance, approach, and discharge techniques


Note:

Students will participate in hands-on fire extinguisher training, including live fire or simulated scenarios to demonstrate proper extinguisher use and response techniques.


Live fire training is conducted using BullEx Live Fire and WaterFX training systems, providing a safe, controlled, and realistic environment for practical application.


If client does not have equipment available on-site, training equipment can be provided or arranged by Accurate Safety Compliance and billed accordingly.
